State Requirements/Coverage Options

If you have previously worked and made payments via deduction from your paychecks, and you meet one of the below requirements, you can obtain Medicare. The enrollment period starts three months before you turn 65. Penalties could result if you enroll outside the enrollment period.

You must be at least 65 years or older to qualify for Medicare coverage. Even if you are not of age, there are other qualifications that you would need to meet, such as:

• Blindness
• Chronic illness

There are also a few different coverage options available to those who qualify, which are:

• Part A (known as hospital insurance)
• Part B (also known as medical insurance)
• Part C (or Medicare Advantage- a third-party provider pays the patient's benefits)
• Part D (also known as prescription coverage)
